HALLOWEEN



  IS A VERY OLD AND TRADITIONAL CELEBRATION. MANY CENTRIES BEFORE CHRIST, THE CELTS OCCUPIED ENGLAND AND IRELAND. THEY THOUGHT THAT WINTER WAS THE TIME OF EVIL SPIRITS, BECAUSE OF THE LONG WINTER NIGHTS. ON OCTOBER 31, THE LAST DAYS BEFORE WINTER, THEY MADE BIG FIRES AND DRESSED UGLY COSTUMES TO SCARE THE EVIL SPIRITS. CENTURIES LATER, THE IRISH INTRODUCED SOMETHING NEW TO THIS DAY. GROUPS OF PEOPLE DRESSING THEIR HALLOWEEN FESTIVIES. WHEN THEY ARRIVED AT A HOUSE THEY SAID, “TRICK OR TREAT!” THE PEOPLE IN THE HOUSE GAVE THEM SOME FOOD OR ELSE THEY WERE VICTIMS OF SOME TRICK.

       TODAY, HALLOWEEN IS A TRADITION ONLY FOR CHILD. THEY STILL WEAR UGLY COSTUMES. GHOST, WITCHES, BLACK CATS, JACK-O-LANTERNS, MONSTERS ETC. ARE TYPICAL COSTUMES OF THIS CELEBRATION. CHILDREN GO TO HOUSES AND SAY,”TRICK OR TREAT!”, AND PEOPLE GIVE THEM CANDIES.

 OBSERVAÇÃO: TRICK OR TREAT = Expressão usada pelas crianças, nas noites de Halloween, ameaçando as pessoas com uma travessura (trick) se não ganharem um doce(treat).
JACK-O-LANTERN= Nome da cara de boneco esculpida numa abóbora.
OR ELSE= Ou então, senão, caso contrário.
